If you're planning to file for bankruptcy, the law requires that you complete a U.S. Trustee approved Credit Counseling Briefing before you file your bankruptcy petition.
Pre-Bankruptcy Instructions
ACCC has created two options to choose from in order to complete your counseling session. Please choose which is the most convenient for you or you may contact us at 1-800-769-3571 ext. 504.
Information required for counseling session:
- Income documentation ( monthly pay stub)
- Monthly living expenses
- Estimated assets
- All secured and unsecured debts ( can use either individual bills or your credit report)
Option 1. Complete course online
- Complete registration for course
- Submit payment
- Proceed through program to earn your bankruptcy certificate online
- Program will instruct you to call us back to complete your session
- When you call a counselor will review your financial summary and options
- Upon completion we will issue your certificate.
Here's what you can expect from your Online Credit Counseling Briefing:
- A web based credit counseling briefing followed by a telephone counseling session
- An easy to navigate, interesting credit counseling briefing full of useful information
- The ability to stop the briefing at any time and return to your session without losing your information already entered. If you need to consult with a counselor during any portion of the counseling session counselors are available Monday – Thursday 9am – 8pm EST and Friday 9am – 6pm EST.
- Customized feedback based on the information you provide
- A printable Summary of the course
- Electronic delivery of your bankruptcy certificate if desired*
Option 2. Complete course over phone with a counselor
- Gather information listed above and call 1-800-769-3571 ext. 504
- We will go through the credit counseling session over the phone (allow for 60-90 minutes)
- Upon completion we will issue your bankruptcy certificate
Same day certificate distribution
- You or your attorney will be able to access your certificate of counseling and counseling summary online.
- Log back into your account using your username and password and click on “Doc Center”
- We will also email you or your attorney your bankruptcy certificate if you would like.
